Made to be You
This past Sunday, we wrapped our series Vital by taking a real look at who we are and who God made us to be. At Ransom Church, we believe God wants us to be set free to be who He made us to be. Perhaps you have a picture of the perfect Christian in your head and think you could never possibly become that person…
Perfect. God doesn’t want you to be someone else. He wants you to be the version of yourself He created you to be, fulfilling the purpose He has for you. Unfortunately, some people don’t like their purpose.
Let me illustrate with something I love: Football. (Sorry if I just lost you…but stick with me!)
Our son has played football since the 3rd grade. When you are young and watching college football or the NFL, every kid wants to be the Quarterback (Or a running back or wide receiver). The problem is, you can’t have a football team with a bunch of Quarterbacks. You need an offensive line, defensive line, receivers, running backs, safeties, cornerbacks, special teams. But that doesn’t change the reality…everyone wants to be the Quarterback.
Here’s the problem. When the coach starts assigning roles, 99% of the team ends up NOT being the Quarterback. At that moment, they have a choice. Will they be a team player? Or will they quit the team and just become a spectator. Sadly, a lot of people choose to settle for being fans. The end result is a game where there are 22 people on the field in desperate need of rest and 50,000 spectators in desperate need of exercise.
So back to my son. He actually WAS the Quarterback one year. But the reality is, he was not made to be a Quarterback. He is a big, tall kid, and is built to really excel at certain positions. They just aren’t Quarterback. I’m so proud of Truitt, as he has chosen to play the role He is best suited for. As a result, last year he was the starting center for a Roosevelt Freshman team that went 8-0 on the season.
Here’s the point: You are you. That’s not a mistake. God made you exactly who He wanted you to be and He gave you exactly the gift mix He wanted you to have. You are uniquely put together to fulfill your God given purpose on this earth. That may be to lead a ministry or be a Worship Pastor or a Missionary. But it might not be. You don’t have to try to be anything you aren’t. But you DO have to ask God to show you exactly who He DID make you to be and what He is calling you to do.
God has a call for you. He has a plan for you. And that plan will be a perfect fit for how you are made. You are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Perhaps it’s time to be the You God made you to be.
